As some of y'all know, I won the Krieger barrel and action job donated by Terry Cross of KMW at the Practical Marksman match last year. I know Terry is backed up with work, but he very generously agreed to do a full build rather than just the barreled action, with me paying for the additional work. The donated barrel was a Krieger MTU contour .308 barrel, but Terry said I could pick any profile and caliber I wanted. I wanted to build a .260, and on Terry's recommendation I went with a heavy palma contour finished at 24". Next, I asked him about his new Sentinel stock. Terry dropped me a stock in the mail so I could find out whether I liked it or not. A number of guys I know who normally don't like thumbhole stocks handled it, and every one loved the way it felt.

To make a long story short, I picked up a pawn shop 700 and sent it down to Louisiana, and it showed back up the day before I left for the match. The work on this rifle is immaculate, the little details are just amazing. Little things like snaprings in the bottom metal to keep you from losing your action bolts, and a thread protector on the muzzle threads that is blended so closely that it's absolutely invisible. I'm going to have to get a better scope for it, for now I just have a 16x Super Sniper on it.

Anyway, here are a couple of very poor pics, I'll try to get some better ones over the weekend. A big thanks to Terry, there's no way I could spring for the full price of a custom rifle right now, if it weren't for his support for the Practical Marksman match I'd still be shooting my PSS.

Remington 700 action, trued
24" Krieger Heavy Palma barrel, chambered in 260 Rem
Sentinel stock, made for Terry by McMillan with Terry's Loggerhead adjustable cheekpiece
OD Cerakote
KMW knob
Threaded muzzle
Badger rail and rings

That stock has very high "funky cool" factors; I'd love to see photos of you on it and a detailed essay of how it feels and works.

I'll try to get someone to take some pics of me with it over the weekend, if my wife doesn't have the baby before then. These are my impressions so far:

The thumbhole is the most comfortable one I've used, and it's ambidextrous. Bolt manipulation is just a touch slower for now, as well as working the safety, but I think the difference will be minimal once I'm more familiar with it.

The shallow forearm makes a difference shooting off a bipod, it seems to have less torque. It's just more stable.

The butthook fits the steering hand well when shooting without a rear bag, but makes using a bag a little harder.

Very nice. I like it!

Will you be shooting that one at next years match?

I have a bunch of brass if you need some I can make you a deal on.

Yep, it's too bad it didn't come a couple of days earlier or I'd have shot it this year.

Shoot me a PM about the brass, you can never have too much.

Very nice. You must be proud.

I'm a guy that hates thumbholed stocks because they hurt the joint, but that stock has a much larger hole and looks like it may work for me.

I was alone at the range yesterday, so I didn't get any in-use pics, but I did take a couple better static pics. The rifle shoots extremely well, to say the least. It was around 63 degrees here yesterday with a hot sun and a breeze. My range has a power right-of-way crossing at 100 yards that catches any head or tailwind, and turns it into a much stronger crosswind. The 100 yard targets were clear, but the mirage at 200 yards was a bear, and the 16x Super Sniper wasn't helping at all. I was surprised anything went under MOA, but 43, 43.5, and 44gr of 4350 all went .6 MOA or under for 5 rounds at 200. I was shooting 130 Bergers with boron nitride in sized down Lake City Match brass. 43.5gr was 2935 FPS, which was in my target area. The couple of rounds I shot at 100 literally bugholed.

That's Terry's own design, he made it to work along with the stock.
